Crosby Ravensworth CE Primary School receives prestigious Artsmark Award
Pupils and staff at Crosby Ravensworth CE School are celebrating after receiving a prestigious Artsmark Award in a momentous year for the programme as it celebrates 20 years of arts, culture and creativity in schools.
The Artsmark Award is the only creative quality standard for schools, accredited by Arts Council England. It supports schools to develop and celebrate arts and cultural education, putting creativity and wellbeing at the heart of the curriculum. Artsmark ensures every young person can be creative and access a diverse, high-quality cultural education.
In order to achieve their Artsmark Award, Crosby Ravensworth had to develop their arts and culture provision to embed a broad and ambitious curriculum. This was achieved by creating an overall plan that was committed to and delivered across the whole school.
The Artsmark assessor commended Crosby Ravensworth School on:
On receiving the award, Headteacher Duncan Priestley said: “We’re extremely proud of achieving our Artsmark Silver Award. We are committed to delivering a high-quality arts and cultural education and we look forward to continue to grow with Artsmark. We've been fortunate to have established some strong partnerships which have helped us reach this standard and I'd particularly like to thank Andi Taylor from Northern Inter-school Christian Union for her dedicated support for our 'Created to Create Arts Exhibition' at Crosby Ravensworth Village Hall last year.”
Dr Darren Henley CBE, Chief Executive of the Arts Council, said:
“I would like to congratulate Crosby Ravensworth School on their Artsmark Award. Becoming an Artsmark school demonstrates that through offering a broad, ambitious, and creative curriculum, every pupil can develop character and resilience, increasing their knowledge, curiosity and skills that will remain with them through to adult life.”
Children in class 1 are pictured sitting on the new King Charles III Coronation Bench, which was kindly funded by the Crosby Ravensworth United Schools Foundation.
Staff and children celebrate the coronation of King Charles III in the grounds of the school around the Union Flag. A coronation bench has also been commissioned to commemorate the historic event, funded by the trustees of Crosby Ravensworth United Schools Foundation.
Every child throughout the school dressed as a book character to celebrate World Book Day on Thursday 2nd March. The children were joined by local author, Kay Lord, who read her book, 'Crumble the comfort cat' and gave out signed copies. The book encourages youngsters to share their anxieties with others rather than letting them build up.
On Friday all the children, including the pre-schoolers, visited Penrith Library for a series of workshops. Those without library cards were able to sign-up and take out books to read at home.
We're so grateful to Andi from NISCU who organised an incredible, memorable experience for the children in church. She took us all back to the start of creation and told us how everything was made by God. Unfortunately, Adam & Eve didn't follow God's rules and so we had to wait many years for his son, Jesus, to be sent to Earth from Heaven to be the light of the world.
The boys and girls listened to what Mary, Joseph, a shepherd and a wise man had to say about the birth of a very special little boy...
It's been a magical run-up to Christmas at Crosby. We performed Babushka, our Christmas nativity play in the village hall to a rapturous reception last week. Click here to listen to Marta beautifully singing one of our songs. On Friday, Freda provided a wonderful Christmas Dinner for all our many guests who joined us from the community. The children entertained us on their recorders then had a fabulous Christmas party with a surprise guest from Santa, who brought a sack full of amazing presents.
Merry Christmas everyone!
All the children sang joyfully at Tebay motorway services yesterday at our impromptu carol service. In around 75 minutes, we raised £165.70 for the Friends of Crosby Ravensworth School. Thanks to all who supported us.
Children in Class 2 were very successful when it came to cycle safety last week. All of year 5 and 6 achieved their level 2 certificates in 'bikeability' and year 4 achieved their level 1 certificates. The school is grateful to Barbara, Neil and Vanessa for assisting the children.
This morning the children had a Westmorland Dales storytelling workshop with Asby Endowed school. First of all they heard two local stories including the Orton Dobby.
Our children then had a workshop to tell the tale of the Orton Dobby by acting it out. They had to play the parts of people that had been in the story or as judges. Did they think it was a true ghost story or one that had been made up?
At the end they told ghost stories of their own.
