    Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr

Ramadan remembers the month the Qur'an (the Muslim holy book) was first revealed to the Prophet Muhammad.  It is a very important time for Muslims, it lasts for a month and ends with a big celebration called Eid-ul-Fitr.

Espresso has a whole section dedicated to Ramadan.  Please watch both the video's on there 'Ramadan' and 'Eid-ul-Fitr'.  You can also watch the BBC video too.

Have a go at the quiz on espresso, it is under the 'activities' section.  You can look at the photographs too.

Discuss some of these key questions?

    • When is Ramadan?
    • How long does it last?
    • What do Muslims do during Ramadan?
    • Are they allowed to eat at all? If so when?
    • What is Eid-ul-Fitr?
    • Do Ramadan and Eid remind you of any Christian festivals?

During Ramadan some Muslims hang up colourful lanterns in their houses.  Have a go at making your own colourful lantern.  You could decorate a glass jar and put a tea light in or if you go to to the 'printable resources' section of espresso there is a template for you to cut out and decorate.
