Numeracy

Big Maths:  Maximum 10 minutes

X & ÷ by 10:  We have already looked at this during home schooling but I would like you to revisit it again.  Remember when we times a number by 10 we are making it ten times bigger by moving it up the place value gird, so 12 X 10 = 120 (add a 0 on the end).

When we divide by 10 we are making the number ten times smaller by moving the numbers one place down the place value grid so 340 ÷ 10 = 34 (take the 0 away).

Times these number by 10:  25   48   61   17   83   52

Divide these number by 10: 320   510   480   630   740   250

Multiplication:  Please practice your 3x table and start learning your 4x table.  You can do this on the supermovers website or 'hit the button'.  Both links below.

Statistics

Today I would like you to collect information in a tally chart and make your own block diagram.  Feel free to collect the information on anything you like but here are some suggestions if you are stuck...

  • How many silver, blue, black, white and red cars pass by my house?
  • How many lorries, tractors, cars, vans and pick-up trucks pass by my house?
  • How many of each animal do I have on my farm?
  • How many sparrows, blue-tits, blackbirds, crows and pigeons come into my garden?
  • How much glass, tin, paper and cardboard recycling do we have?

Espresso provide templates for tally charts and block diagrams which I have linked below but feel free to simply draw your own on paper.  Squared paper is best for the block diagram if you have it.

Have fun
