Big Maths:  Max 10 minutes

Please repeat the same Big Maths as yesterday!  Have fun dancing along to the Supermovers 2x table song.

Adding money and calculating change

Have a go at the two activities on the espresso link below 'Matching coins and values' and 'Ordering combinations of coins'.

Take a look at pg31 of your pupil workbook.  You will see some problems regarding adding money and finding change.  The two questions on adding money should be pretty straight forward especially using a numberline.  Finding the change can be slightly more tricky; again use the numberline and either

  • count backwards
  • or find the difference by counting from one number to the next (18p - ? = 8p  Start at 8 and count up to 18, how many jumps did you do?  Make sure you explain that finding the different is the SAME as subtracting)

If you want to extend your child's work today then once you have answered the problems ask your child to make the answers using actual coins.  So Ethan spent 14p, can you show me what 14p looks like?
