Plants We Eat

Please download this lesson and watch the presentation, starting from slide 8 and watch the video at the end.

(Remember to go to the tool bar at the top: file  -  slide show  - from current slide (8))

I've just had a message from a parent telling me that they can't get onto this presentation. Sorry if you have found this too. The slideshow basically shows the parts of a plant that food comes from eg. the root, leaves, flowers seeds etc. The table below has examples you can discuss as you do the activity. Please do email me immediately any time you have a problem accessing any of the lessons we put on or do not understand what to do, so that we can rectify and problems or confusion as soon as possible. Thank you.

Reception / Year 1: Look at some of the food in you house. Is it a fruit/ vegetable/ grain or nut/ seed? Can you guess which part of the plant it comes from?

Year 2: After the slideshow think of different foods that come from different parts of a plant. Attached is a table for you to sort food into different categories. You can print this off or draw the table in your book and draw food in each category. You could even cut pictures out from any food magazines you may have and stick them in your table.

I have included a couple of seasonal recipes below that you may like to try. Which part of the nettle do you think you use for nettle soup and which part of the rhubarb do you use to cook with?
